on being an artist

"I think that all artists, regardless of degree of talent, are a painful, paradoxical combination of certainty and uncertainty, of arrogance and humility, constantly in need of reassurance, and yet with a stubborn streak of faith in their own validity no matter what. " - Madeleine L'Engle, A Circle of Quiet, Section 1.14

Yep. Pretty much.

Thank you for putting up with it... :)

Well thanks for giving us a glimpse into yourself.

It's funny, I call you my kindred spirit because I relate to so much of what you say and what you have revealed about yourself. But I am an Accountant and you are an Artist. Sterotypically, how far apart can you get?

I did laugh at the several boxes of junk mail that you reported having stashed.

Ruth, God has made a myriad of artists here.
They are not only those who are musicians or those who can draw paint or sculpt.

Every area of life can be performed artistly or just performed ... even in accounting.

Mike - Hey. How's the writing going? :) (Artistic angst is fun, isn't it?) :P

Ruth - Stereotypically? Probably not much further... fortunately i don't hold much with them. now if i only i didn't hold so much with clutter, i'd be in good shape. :)

You know what, tho - I think Valorosa makes a good point (hi, V!) :) - as people made in God's image, we're all creative in some way, shape, or form - and I think as evidenced by your writing and by your love for music, you do have a creative side. Most of my more analytical friends do.

The creative side of us (the artist) is what leads us to experiencing life the way we do - and you write beautifully about that. So keep writing! :)

Writing? I have been able to fit in a couple of new scripture reflections in the last week but it seems like when I start working on my book, someone always needs attention. This might be a very long process

Valorosa you said:

"Every area of life can be performed artistically or just performed ... even in accounting."

I never thought of it that way....I certainly put my own "spin" on what I do.

Thanks Happy for the enouraging words about my writing. I have been having fun with it. I used to love writing stories in grade school but in college I got into numbers cause I figured there was more money in it. Which of course is true. But the writing is for fun.
