Two Conversations

"There are more colors on the palette of your soul than you have even begun to paint with."

My friend Matt said that to me years ago, during one of the last times I had the privilege of sitting in his office, learning everything I possibly could from him about how to lead worship and do it well. I can still say that most of what I get right is because Matt taught me how to do it, and I will always be grateful for that season of discipleship.

More colors....

When Matt said that, I completely burst into tears, and when he asked why, I couldn't explain it anymore than to simply say, "Because it's true!!" and I knew that it was, but I hadn't the slightest idea what he meant by it.

Last week after I preached, Mary, one of our mentors at Torch, stopped me to give me a huge hug and tell me how proud she was... (which is just cool in and of itself from someone you look up to as kind of a mom) and then she looked at me for a minute, and she said, "This is the road, isn't it?"

It is. I don't how I know that, and I'm not sure what that means, but "this" - whatever it is, and it involves teaching - is the road.

I'm kind of floored by that right now...

"Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name." - Psalm 86:11

Wow, that is beautiful. Like most of the stuff in this blog, actually.

Worship leaders many change venues, (as you and I and others are experiencing) but we are worship leaders none the less...music is one venue, the pulpit is another, the street is another still...you are a woman of God and I am blessed beyond compare to be in the process of knowing you and your journey steps...

Cathy - thank you. That is so sweet. :) And I am REALLY glad we met this summer!!! I'm really enjoying your blog, too. You are one talented lady.

Faintnot dearest - I can't tell you how much I needed to hear the reminder that preaching is still leading worship. I told someone this week that it felt so strange to say that, much as I love leading worship, preaching was even more fun... I almost felt guilty, in an odd sort of way, like I was betraying my first love or something, and wondering what I was supposed to do with it... but pursuing this teaching thing ISN'T abandoning my call to lead worship at all - it's simply learning to paint a different part of the same picture with a new brush, isn't it? phew! :)

That is a very true insight. Preaching is very much worship. Only some of us feel most connected to God during a musical worship service... there's another group of people out there who feel most connected to God during a sermon... or a walk on the beach.. or while reading a theology book....

Happy, that feeling that it's just it is amazing...and scary and thrilling and so very full of meaning and possibility and hope. I rejoice with you.

Thanks for the "hello", by the way!
